The classic burkini is the foundation SKU of any modest swim brand. It is a three-part system — tunic top, leggings or swim pants, and integrated or separate head covering — that must deliver complete coverage while remaining light enough to swim in. The engineering challenge is real: fabric that covers the whole body becomes heavy when wet, clings where it should drape, and turns translucent if the base cloth is chosen carelessly. Getting all three right is what separates a burkini that sells from one that gets returned.
Set Components and Styles
A standard classic set includes a long-sleeve tunic top reaching mid-thigh or knee, full-length swim leggings, and a fitted hood or separate head scarf. Tunic lengths can be adjusted from hip to below-knee depending on market preference. For premium positioning we offer a matte-finish nylon spandex with a softer hand. Construction & Craftsmanship Details
Long seams over the arms, torso, and legs are flatlock stitched, since these run directly against skin for the full length of the garment and any ridge becomes uncomfortable within minutes of wear. Cuffs at wrist and ankle use soft encased elastic that grips without marking. The tunic hem is weighted or side-slit so it does not balloon in water. Power-mesh lining is inserted at the bust for support and at the seat of the leggings for opacity. Waistbands use encased elastic with an internal drawcord. Where a zip is specified at the front or back, we use a corrosion-resistant plastic or coated metal zip with a fabric guard behind it so it never contacts skin.

Classic burkinis sell strongly in solid colors — navy, black, teal, burgundy, and grey are consistent performers — with contrast piping or panel detailing providing visual interest without additional print cost. Custom Pantone matching is standard with one lab dip round. Where print is used, we place it as a panel or border rather than all-over, which suits the modest aesthetic and reduces print cost. Branding uses woven labels at the inner neck, heat-transfer tagless labels, silicone patches, and custom hangtags.
