The three-piece configuration separates the head covering from the body garment, and that single decision changes how the customer uses the product. She can wear the scarf or not, swap it for her own, wash the pieces separately, and mix sizes between top and bottom. For brands, three-piece sets present better at retail, support a higher combined price point, and allow separates selling later in the season when full sets have sold through in uneven sizes.
Set Configuration
The standard three-piece comprises a long-sleeve tunic or fitted top, full-length swim leggings, and a separate head scarf or cap-and-drape covering. Tunic length runs from hip to knee. Leggings can be straight, tapered, or flared with elastic or drawcord waist. The scarf is produced in pull-on cap-with-drape, tie-back, or Al-Amira slip-on formats. Some brands add a fourth piece — a light open cover-up worn over the set for poolside — and we can produce that as a bundled or standalone SKU.
Fabric Matching Across Pieces
The defining quality issue in a three-piece set is tonal consistency. Three garments cut from three different dye lots will not match, and the mismatch is immediately visible when worn together. We produce all three pieces from the same dye lot wherever the fabric base allows, and where a lighter weight is needed for the scarf we run a coordinated dye alongside the main lot rather than sourcing separately. Base fabric is lightweight polyester spandex with UPF 50+, verified for wet-state opacity across all three components.
Construction & Craftsmanship Details
Flatlock seams run throughout all three pieces. The tunic uses power-mesh lining at the bust and a weighted or slit hem to prevent ballooning. Leggings carry a lined seat panel for opacity and a wide encased waistband. The scarf uses soft encased elastic at the face opening and a drape cut long enough to tuck securely into the tunic neckline — if the drape is too short it pulls out during swimming, which is the most common complaint about poorly designed three-piece sets. All internal seams are checked for skin-contact points at QC.
Customization & Branding
Solid colorways with contrast piping across all three pieces are the strongest sellers. Panel prints on the tunic with solid leggings and a coordinating scarf are the next most popular configuration. Pantone matching is standard with lab dips confirming color across all three fabric weights. Branding uses tagless heat-transfer labels throughout, since sewn labels are especially problematic in the scarf. Sets can be packed in branded boxes with a component card, which supports a premium retail price point.
Sizing & Fit Development
Body pieces grade S-4XL. The scarf runs S/M and L/XL, or one-size adjustable, which keeps SKU complexity manageable. Because pieces are separate, we can support mixed-size sets — a customer taking a larger top with smaller leggings — either as a made-to-order option or by packing separates. Fit samples should be approved as a complete worn set rather than piece by piece, since the interaction between scarf drape and tunic neckline only becomes apparent when everything is on the body together.

Three-piece sets pack in a single poly bag or branded box with a component and size card. Set packing presents better at retail than loose pieces and supports a higher combined price.
