Swim skirts serve a customer that most swim brands under-serve: the woman who wants to swim without exposing her hips and thighs. It is a large, loyal, and repeat-buying segment that skews slightly older and considerably less price-sensitive than the bikini market. A well-constructed swim skirt with a properly attached brief is a quiet best-seller for brands that stock it.

Styles We Manufacture

A-line swim skirts with attached briefs in short and knee lengths. Wrap-front skirts with an overlapping panel for extra hip coverage. Ruched side skirts that create a flattering vertical drape. Skirted one-piece swimsuits where the skirt is integrated at the waist seam. Skirted tankini bottoms for mix-and-match ranges. Flounce and tiered hems for a softer look. Swim dresses with a fitted bodice and flared skirt, which read as a dress but perform as swimwear.

Fabric Options

Nylon spandex 80/20 is the standard for its drape and recovery. Recycled polyester spandex works well for print-led ranges and carries GRS certification. For skirts specifically, fabric weight matters more than in other categories — too light and the skirt floats up in water, too heavy and it clings. We generally recommend a mid-weight in the 190-210 gsm range, and can add a discreet weighted hem tape on longer styles.

Construction & Craftsmanship Details

The brief is attached at the waist seam and cut on its own block, so it fits properly rather than being a token liner. Skirt panels are cut with adequate flare to move in water without ballooning. Hems are coverstitched or bound depending on fabric weight. Waistbands use encased elastic with a smooth internal finish. Ruching is built with elastic shirring inserted during sewing. On wrap styles, the overlap is secured with a hidden bar tack so the skirt cannot open unintentionally in water — a small detail that determines whether the customer trusts the garment.

Customization & Branding

Prints run digital or sublimation depending on base fabric. Because skirts have larger uninterrupted panels than bikini bottoms, they display print artwork particularly well, and a bold placement print can carry an entire style. Solid colors with contrast binding are a cost-effective alternative that still looks designed. Branding uses woven labels at the center back waist, heat-transfer care labels, and custom hangtags.

Sizing & Fit Development

Grading runs XS-3XL with extended plus-size grading available to 5XL on request. This category over-indexes in larger sizes, so investing in proper plus-size grading rather than simply scaling up the base pattern is worth doing — hip-to-waist ratio changes across the size range and a straight scale produces a poor fit. Fit samples in both a core size and a large size are recommended before bulk.

Packaging & Shipping

Skirts are folded and poly bagged with hangtags at the waistband. Skirted one-pieces and swim dresses pack as single units. Mixed size ratios per carton are supported at no extra cost. All freight modes available with full export documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the skirt come with an attached brief?

Yes as standard, cut on its own pattern block so it fits correctly. A skirt-only version without brief is available for layering over separate bottoms.

Will the skirt float up in the water?

Not with correct fabric weight and panel flare. We recommend mid-weight 190-210 gsm and can add discreet weighted hem tape on longer styles.

Do you offer plus sizes?

Yes — standard grading to 3XL, with extended grading to 5XL on request. We re-draft rather than scale, since hip-to-waist ratio shifts across the range.

Can the skirt be integrated into a one-piece?

Yes. Skirted one-pieces attach the skirt at the waist seam of the body, and skirted tankini bottoms are also available.

How do you stop a wrap skirt from opening in water?

A hidden bar tack secures the overlap at the hip. The wrap look is preserved but the garment cannot open unintentionally.

What is the MOQ and lead time?

50 pcs per style per color, with bulk production in 15-20 days.

Factory-direct pricing, sampling in 7–10 days, and photo updates at every production stage.
